Position Description
POSITION TITLE: ESL Translator for the 2024-2025 School Year (11 month position)
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) • High School diploma or equivalent • Knowledge of and demonstrated language skills, both spoken and written, in English and Spanish • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English and Spanish • Experience in school district communications (preferred) • Must have valid drivers license
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Associates Degree • Maintains positive, professional relationships with staff and community • Set a good example, and be a positive role model appropriate to a school setting
REPORTS TO: ELL Coordinator and Federal Programs Supervisor
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: May include but are not limited to, the following: • Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English and Spanish • Ability to conduct written translations / interpretations • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills • Strong copy editing and proofreading skills in Spanish • Ability to work and meet deadlines for multiple assignments simultaneously • Ability to maintain flexible work hours to accommodate school and community communication and translation needs at evening events and meetings. • Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to work independently • Ability to work as a team member
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provides communication services verbally or in writing in Spanish on behalf of the district administration and staff. Maintains message content within District and professional standards. Provides support to non-English speaking parents, guardians, and community members • Communicate effectively with culturally diverse populations including those with limited English proficiency; understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of students records, meet scheduled deadlines and read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures • Translator: Translates a variety of documents for both the community and district-wide audiences. |
