POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Alternative School (ESC) Assistant
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 month employment with benefits, to begin on January 6, 2025
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- Sensitivity to the needs of students
- Prior experience in working with students preferred
- Strong displinarian with good management skills
- Ability to follow written and oral directions from the classroom teacher, the building principal, and instructional supervisor
- Willingness to accept supervision from the classroom teacher and other professionals
- Good physical and emotional health
- Enthusiasm for working with students
- Respect for confidentiality of matters relating to school/students
- Must meet Highly Qualified criteria
PERSONNEL RELATIONSHIPS:
- The instructional assistant works under the supervision and authority of the principal, who is responsible for ensuring that the employee is meeting the requirements of the job assignment
- The instructional assistant is immediately supervised by the principal. Classroom teachers will be responsible for giving student work and for providing planned supplementary activities for the assistant to utilize with students.
- The instructional assistant is centrally supervised by the appropriate system-level supervisor
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide student support in a alternative placement
- Supervise and assist students at all times
- Follow daily lesson plans/instructions provided by the supervising teacher
- Maintain the approved work schedule consistently and punctually except in cases of emergency or necessary absence
- Perform non-instructional duties as assigned by the principal or assistant principal
- Attend required in-service
OTHER JOB RELATED INFORMATION:
- Maintain an annual work schedule as assigned
- Follow the school policy in cases of absence
